Of course, for doors to function, hardware is required to include door handles. Just as with doors, handles have a long history although these were first manufactured during the mid-19th century in America. The first handle was shaped like an egg and today, they are still found in many homes, especially older homes. Interestingly, because of the way this type of door handle is grasped, it has proved to be the easiest to open.

Door handles have become like fashion statements at the top end of the market, as some variations come in intricate and ornate designs to add glitz and glamor to the over-all look of your home. While retaining its main functionality of opening and closing doors, variations in handle design often come in relation to particular needs and requirements such as: for nursery rooms, handles sometimes come in cheerful cartoon designs; for kitchen doors, some have fruit embellishments; for a girls room, pink handles are also available. These are fancy handles: but for permanent and lasting use, most homes use the more versatile materials such as brass and metal handles, which can withstand repeated use, and can adapt to most household interiors.
Whilst you may have spent hours helping your grandparents polish the fireside companion set, when it comes to your door handles, the best way to keep your polished brass door furniture looking shiny is with plain and simple warm soapy water and a soft cloth. The polished brass ranges we supply have all been treated with a special lacquer, and the use of metal polishes or other abrasive cleaners will damage this and cause it to wear away far quicker than it would under normal use. Eventually after a good few years of use, this lacquer may well breakdown, at which point, you should remove the door handle or pull, and treat it with an acetone thinner applied with a soft brush. Dry well with a soft cloth and then polish up with a metal polish. Regular polishing thereafter will keep them looking great.
