Door Hinges. Sunday , November 26th , 2017 - 10:34:22 AM
While wood doors are generally able to be held with two hinges (unless they are very heavy wood or oversized door), if you have a steel door you need to make sure the hinges are strong enough to hold it. This means you may once again want to go with three door hinges, instead of the traditional two, for the extra stability they will afford. If you hear a squeaking door sometimes its not that it needs oil its that its too heavy for the two hinges its being held by and needs a third one.
Another way to tell if it is a good idea to replace your doors with pre-hung replacements is if the rest of the doors already cant in their frames. You can square them yourself, but if you are planning to replace these doors, go for the pre-hung. They take much less time to replace and come in pre-finished or raw wood. One last thing, is your door a left- or right-hanging door? Hmmm...you think for a minute. Nope, you are sure you havent heard that one. Dont worry its easy. When you are buying any type of hinged door; storm door, entry door, and even cabinet doors, OR when you are buying hinged door hardware; hinges especially and sometimes latches, the salesperson will eventually ask you whether it is a right- or left-hanging door. The way you figure it out is, when you pull open the door; does it open to your left or to your right? Whichever way it opens is the answer.
If you are replacing three-hole door hinges, you should start by putting in the middle screw first, then put in the bottom screw. Finally you should put in the top screw. If you repeat this on both the top and bottom of a cabinet door you will be able to keep your door in alignment. If you have two-hole door hinges things can get a little trickier. The easiest way to do them is to have someone help you. Their job will be to hold the door in place while you put the screws in. You can also balance the door on something while you put the screws in. But, this can be a little frustrating if the door moves or shifts before you get both screws in place.
