Virginie. Door Knob. November 17th , 2017.
A door knob is a hardware handle which is installed in a cabinet door with the use of a screw or sometimes a bolt. Compared with finger pulls and door latches, this is a better option because it is more versatile, easier to install and to use. Any color, either light or dark door knobs will definitely fit any style of door.Knobs have different ranges in terms of its size. It ranges from 1 inch to 1 ½ inch diameter which is appropriate in almost all sizes of the doors, except for the big ones. Aside from round shapes, knobs are also available in shapes like flat but the edges are round, square, or bun shape and even shaped like `T`. It can be made of metal or wood and it can just be plain or with decorations.
Porcelain door knobs can look magnificent in the right setting; they are colourful and artistic and can really make a door shine. These aren`t as common in people for two reasons, firstly they tend to be a little more expensive than many of the other varieties on the market today, and secondly, they tend to break rather easily. Most people won`t mind spending a little extra cash on a door knob, but when they find out that these aren`t the most durable products they begin to look elsewhere.
It is not difficult to look for the sizes of the knobs. Take note that when knobs are installed in the drawers of the cabinets, it should be the same or bigger in size compared with the door knob. The wood knobs are one size higher than its metal counterpart. The screws for the knob are available in the hardware. There are those who manufactures and sells with the screws while most usually do not include the screws. The normal and standard size for is 8/32 screw.
Although there are a number of glass knob manufacturers that have come out with several replicas of the Victorian glass door knobs, they haven`t been able to match the quality, precision, and detail of antique glass knobs. Although brass, chrome, and steel knobs look good on doors they tend to lose their sheen and color due to the weather conditions. Moreover the constant touch of sweaty or wet hands on these door knobs can make them look drab. Antique glass door knobs are durable and are prone to different weather conditions.
Interior door knobs are available in four primary styles; privacy, passage, double dummy and single dummy. Privacy and passage knobs turn and operate a latch mechanism - the difference is privacy style knobs have a push pin lock (these are generally used on bathrooms or bedrooms). Single dummy and double dummy knobs do not turn or operate a latch mechanism - a single dummy knob is one knob on the exterior side of the door while a double dummy is a knob on either side of one door. Note: Most double dummy knobs cannot be used on two separate doors.
